This nationally recognised NEBOSH qualification covers the main legal requirements for health and safety and deals with a range of workplace hazards and methods of control.
It is for managers, supervisors, and safety representatives who may not specialise in health and safety, but require sound knowledge of risk management to create safe working practices and a strong health and safety culture.
It is also a starting point for those wishing to develop a career in health and safety.

Course content
The NEBOSH national general certificate consists of two units, each separately assessed. Delegates may choose to take the units together or at different times, but delegates are required to pass both within a five-year period to gain the overall award.

Element 1 Why we should manage workplace health and safety
Element 2 How health and safety management systems work and what they look like
Element 3 Managing risk – understanding people and processes
Element 4 Health and safety monitoring and measuring
NG2 – Risk Assessment
Element 5 Physical and psychological health
Element 6 Musculoskeletal health
Element 7 Chemical and biological agents
Element 8 General workplace issues
Element 9 Work equipment

Pre-requisites
There are no pre-requisites for this course.
Assessment
NG1 is assessed via an open book exam which is administered on-line & must be completed during a set 24 hour window.
NG2 is assessed via a practical assessment carried out following completion of all the units and usually carried out within the delegates’ workplace. On completion of this assessment, the delegate will receive either a pass or refer. NG2 does not contribute to the delegate’s overall grade.
A delegate can receive an overall refer, pass, credit or distinction grade following their open book examination and a pass grade for the practical assessment.

This course gives a sound knowledge base for supervisors and managers. It can help towards their development progress and gives you the knowledge required to take on a more specific health and safety focused role in your organisation.
An individual can also apply to become a technical member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) following a review of their qualifications and at least two years vocational evidence of working within health and safety.
